Album Review: George Ezra – Staying At Tamara’s

It’s a big year for George Ezra, back on tour and gracing us with new music; Staying At Tamara’s. Four years after his debut album Wanted On Voyage had major success (he was 2014’s third top-selling artist), and with the pressures of releasing an even better record, Ezra has certainly delivered. In the 18 months it’s taken to release Staying At Tamara’s (named after he rented a room for a month in Barcalona owned by someone named Tamara), Ezra has thrived through the success of previous releases such as Budapest and Blame It On Me. But his latest record shows … Continue reading Album Review: George Ezra – Staying At Tamara’s

Album Review: The Loved Ones – Flyte

Discovering new music is exciting, and this is a band, relatively new to me, who have really caught my attention this year. Their debut album The Loved Ones is old-school and brilliant. Sophie Turrill gave the ten track masterpiece a listen to; here’s the verdict: Flyte are a British alternative pop/alternative rock band from London who formed in 2013 and have had early singles played by Zane Lowe and Fearn Cotton. The four piece made up of Will Taylor (lead singer and guitar), Sam Kerridge (keyboard, guitar and backup vocals), Jon Supran (drums and backup vocals) and Nick Hill (bass and backup vocals) … Continue reading Album Review: The Loved Ones – Flyte

Album Review: Coasts – This Life, Vol 1

Coasts have been around for a few years now (well six in fact) and they’ve made a huge impact on the alternative rock/indie pop scene in the UK. Now they’re back with more, releasing their second album: This Life, Vol 1. Sophie Turrill reviews the ten track masterpiece. The five piece (made up of vocalist Chris Caines, guitarist Liam Willford, bassist James Gamage, drummer Ben Street and David Goulbourn)  met at university in Bath and have been producing, recording and performing hits since 2012 – getting radio play from Huw Stephens in their first year – quite impressive. Take Me … Continue reading Album Review: Coasts – This Life, Vol 1

Review: Amber Run’s For a Moment, I Was Lost

It’s been over a year since their last album release, but Amber Run are back with their dynamic 12 track release: For a Moment, I Was Lost. The four-piece formed whilst studying at the University of Nottingham and played their fourth ever show on the BBC introducing stage at Reading Festival in 2013. After band member Felix Archer left the group unexpectedly last year the band faced an uncertain future, unsure whether they would make a comeback. But they did, and they’re back stronger than ever. Insomniac is a punchy, upbeat opening track. The piano (played by Henry Wyeth) features heavily at the … Continue reading Review: Amber Run’s For a Moment, I Was Lost
