The Ks – An Explosive Year

This year, The K’s have made the music scene their own. Their fanbase has expanded rapidly, and they’re getting ready to release their debut record and go on their biggest ever UK Tour.

The four-piece played a sold-out show at Leadmill Sheffield on Wednesday, performing a 14-song setlist starting with “Picture,” ending with “Sarajevo,” and debuting their latest single “Heart on My Sleeve” in between.

The band knew what the crowd wanted and delivered, with their lyrics being sung word for word back, and their arms were up in the air for almost the whole duration of the show.

The set list also included: Got A Feeling, TV, Chancer, Landmines, Glass Towns, Hoping Maybe, Throw It All Away, Aurora, Valley One, Dacton and Hometown.

Some might call them an ‘up and coming’ indie rock band, but pretty soon they will need no introduction – their music is fresh and honest. They are all about showcasing their Northern antics, whether through the lyrics or in the way the song is sung.

I caught up with frontman Jamie Boyle ahead of the rest of their 2023 tour and looking ahead to a huge 2024!

What are you excited about for this tour and how will it compare to your biggest headline tour next year?

This tour is gonna be amazing. We play our biggest ever show at Manchester Academy on 24th Nov so that’s definitely gonna be the highlight of the bands career so far! Next year will be even bigger and even better! We will be playing a lot more of the album on next years tour after release so it’ll be a completely new set from this tour!

“I think I live a pretty mental life compared to a lot of people and the lyrics are all very personal to my life so I think that certainly keeps that side of it fresh!”

Is there a favourite and least favourite part of touring?

My favourite part is definitely just exploring so many cool places with my best mates. We love touring so I wouldn’t say there is a worst part! But if I had to it’d be missing so many important personal events, weddings, birthdays, etc! But our friends and family are all amazing and supportive so always understand!

Your new single ‘Heart on my sleeve’ is out now, how did you go about creating the track?

I wrote it in about June. I think I was just in a mood about the constant bullshit that is a part of every day life. We are all constantly pretending to be things we aren’t in order to save face, impress people, hurt people, whatever the reason. We all do it from time to time and I think that’s why a lot of people find it so relatable!

What was the experience like making the debut record and what can you tell us about it?

It was amazing. Stressful but amazing. We firmly believe we’ve made the perfect debut album for the band. It was a long time coming but we are glad we waited and have made something we are all so proud of.

How do you keep your music original?

I think I live a pretty mental life compared to a lot of people and the lyrics are all very personal to my life so I think that certainly keeps that side of it fresh! In terms of the actual music I think constantly trying new things and looking for new influences and inspiration is a big part!

Do you have any pre-show rituals?

10 guinness each! Joking. Nah not really. We’re all just buzzing to get on stage so we’re usually just chomping at the bit waiting by the door!
