PREVIEW: Barn On The Farm 2019

Over Farm in Gloucester is getting ready to put the bunting and balloons up for this years 10th anniversary special – an award winning intimate festival it has the distinct knack of getting artists to perform that go on to have huge career success – but what about 2019?

whos playing

The lineup for this year is equally impressive as the last few. The three main headline acts being Sam Fender, Maggie Rogers and Lewis Capaldi.

Sam Fender has had a supersonic year since performing at last years festival. He’s just started his second sold-out UK/European tour, he’s gained radio success and he’s bagged himself the BRITs Critics Choice Award. Last year he performed on the Outdoor Stage and blew me away with his vocals, this year no doubt he’ll do the same – just before his debut album Supersonic Missiles is released too!

Another returning face to the festival is Lewis Capaldi. He has had a mad couple of months since the release of Someone You Loved which has been the UK’s official number one for seven consecutive weeks! He’s just announced an arena tour (more of an excuse to see him at an intimate festival), and his debut album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent comes out in May, just in time to make yourself familiar with all his songs before catching him down on the farm.

Making her debut on Over Farm is Maggie Rogers, one of only two UK festivals she’s playing this year. Originally from Maryland US, the 24 year-old is set to bring her hits such as Alaska, On and Off and Light On to an exciting set-list which will no doubt sound amazing under the blue skies. Rogers has been acclaimed by dance-hit phenomenon Pharrell Williams and Alaska has been covered by BOTF alumni Amber Run in the past. It will be a set you don’t want to miss!

Joining the three headliners this year include the very talented Maverick Sabre, Zak Abel, Swim Deep, Sea Girls, Ten Tonnes, Nina Nesbitt, Gabrielle Aplin, Flyte, Only The Poets, Vistas, Grace Carter, Jade Bird, Maisie Peters, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, The Japenese House and many more! (You can see the full line-up below).

what can i expect

It boasts itself as in intimate festival that gathers like-minded music lovers to congregate as a community on an actual working farm – and that’s why it does so well. Not only are the three stages a hop, skip and hoedown apart, the food and drink vendors are chosen so as there’s something for everyone, they’re making this year more eco-friendly (they were already an advocate for multi-use cups), but everything from the staging to bunting is picture perfect.

If the weather is as nice as last year make sure you bring your sun-cream because you don’t want to end up looking like a lobster (shade is limited unless you want to sit in your tent or next to the stages), but much rather the sun than muddy puddles everywhere.

One of the great things about Barn On The Farm is the people everyone else is there for the same reason, and musicians wonder round enjoying the atmosphere too. Maybe take a picture with the famous ostrich, taste the delicious ice-cream, have a sing song with your favourite artist, and try not to annoy your tent neighbours with some snoring.

Previous performers include Ed Sheeran, Hozier, George Ezra, Tom Grennan, James Bay, Ben Howard and many more.  You can also check out my BOTF roundup from last year here.
