REVIEW: The Vamps at Nottingham Arena

This is the fourth time The Vamps have headlined at Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena and not only did they wow the crowd with energetic performances, but they had a few surprises up their sleeves too.

If discovering new artists through support acts is something you love then this tour is for you. Four different artists took it in turn to showcase what they’re all about. Yorkshire band :PM kicked things off with three lively tracks including a fabulous rendition of their latest single Driving Me Crazy. They were followed by HRVY who may have almost pipped the loudest screams of the night from teenage girls who were excited to hear his latest single Hasta Luego, a fun song that makes you want to get to your feet.

If you’ve seen The Vamps on tour previously New Hope Club will be a familiar sight to you, the three piece treated the crowd to five songs, Tiger Feet being the stand out track with it’s rock n roll influences. Finally rising superstar, 15 year-old Jacob Sartorius took to the stage bringing a cheeky smile, a lot of energy and his hit track (which has over 58 millions views) Hit Or Miss. One to watch for the future.

They may be old hands at arena tours now, but Brad, James, Connor and Tristan (all in their early 20s) still brought something fresh to the show. Energetic and greatful the four-piece clearly love being on stage and performing their songs to thousands of people.

Opening up with a few fireworks and crowd pleaser Staying Up, Last Night and Shades On they knew how to get the audience up on their feet, something quite difficult in an arena. It was followed by Last Dance and Middle Of The Night which was definitely a crowd pleaser- even the reluctant parents were bopping along.

Taking a step back they performed a new track off their upcoming album release in July Called Just My Type, a slower number which still had the pop sound and gripping vocals of Brad.

Perhaps their most catchy song was next, Personal has every component of being a track not only put a smile on your face and make you want to move, but also to get stuck in your head. The surprise of the night came half-way through the number when Maggie Lindemann joined The Vamps on stage to finish the track and perform her hit single Pretty Girl. She fits in really well with The Vamps and the crowd really seemed to love the surprise appearance.

Hands, Wild Heart and Hair Too Long were followed by a mash up of Anne-Marie’s Friends, Dua Lipa’s New Rules and Camila Cabello’s Havana. Three hit songs that not only got the crowd singing along as loud as they could, but they really looked like they enjoyed performing it. It was great to see something a bit different, and the mash up really worked.

In a bid to make the Night and Day Tour as interactive as possible the band run a Twitter poll to let the audience decide which track they should perform acoustically, and this time round Connor and James performed a slowed down rendition of Golden. A slower number that not only let the band have a breather, but the crowd could rest their feet from dancing too.

Continuing with their interactive feature YouTuber Saffron Barker then bought on stage the winners from #OnStageWithTheVamps, where fans can tweet their seats in hope to get a selfie with the band on stage. A slightly awkward few minutes was followed by Somebody To You (unfortunately without Demi Lovato) and Cecelia before the encore.

After a few chants of ‘we want more’ and some foot stomping, the slightly sweaty four-piece returned to the stage to perform Like I Do and finally Wake Up. A brilliant ending to a fun show that not only left the thousands of teen girls (and guys) with croaky voices, but also left no doubt that they would be back to sing along again when they return to the arena on their next tour.
