Saint Raymond, A Light That Blinds EP Review

Saint Raymond has had some time away from the music scene but he’s back with his latest EP A Light That Blinds, four thrilling tracks that certainly show he’s back and better than ever.

Also known as Callum Burrows the 22 year-old Nottingham singer took a two year hiatus after releasing album Young Blood. But he’s back and recently surprised fans with first single Nightcrawling.

It’s my favourite track on the EP for a number of reasons, firstly because it’s an absolute belter; it’s catchy with incredible lyrics, and it’s hard not to love Burrow’s distinct vocals. It’s an easy song to listen to with an electric beat and melody that will leave you singing along by the end. Is it too much to say it’s one of my favourite singles released this year?

We Are Fire was the second song released from the EP, it’s got a really great melody (especially in the chorus), not as easy to sing along to but great nonetheless. I really love the focus on instrumentals in this track and it all works together really well with the vocals.

Younger has an old school feel to it with a lot going on that it takes you in numerous directions. It’s upbeat, catchy and another feel good song that will leave your head bobbing – the chorus in particular reminds me of The 1975. I really love the lyrics to this track – there’s something quite romantic about them.

The final track on the EP is Last Time, it’s probably the slowest song  on the EP. About a break-up it’s quite a raw song lyrically and Burrow’s shows that with his vocals. It’s not as powerful as the other tracks on the EP but it doesn’t need to be.

Overall, the EP is a sweeping success and it’s definitely made me excited for what’s to come in the next year.
