Discover Manchester’s The Covasettes as they release their explosive debut single This Feeling

Manchester four piece The Covasettes have only been together for a year and tomorrow sees the release of their stunning debut single This Feeling, an exciting track with an addictive sound, explosive riffs and gripping vocals.

I spoke to Chris Buxton (lead vocals/guitar), Matt Hewlett (lead guitar, vocals), Jamie McIntyre (bass/vocals) and Matt Buckley (drums/percussion) all in their early 20s, about the track and their sound.

What’s This Feeling about?

We never like to give too much away when it comes to our songs and what they mean, that’s not because they have deep seated meanings behind them, its just that music can mean different things to different people and we like that! So we’ll leave you to make your mind up about that one!

How long did the process of creating the song take from start to finish?

Well in terms of writing it didn’t take too long, it came pretty naturally to us but the recording and editing was done over the course of about three months. We didn’t have a deadline as we wanted to create something we were all 100% happy with no matter how long the process was.

How are you feeling (see what I did there?!) about the release of your debut single?

Good one, we’ve not heard that one before… But we are feeling good about it. For us it’s been a long time coming and we can’t wait for the world to hear it. Naturally we are a bit nervous but the excitement is outweighing that at the moment.

What was your favourite part of creating the track?

Honestly the whole thing, we have loved every moment of it despite it being a long and tiring process. The best bit is probably having something at the end that we are all really proud of and eager to share.

Describe your sound

This is a hard one for us. We describe it as big and fun. We want people to be able to dance along, sing along and generally have a sick time at our gigs. We’ve been likened to several other bands, which we always take as a compliment.

How did you form as a band?

Pretty much by accident to be honest, we crossed paths in various ways while all at different unis in Manchester but as soon as we jammed together we knew we wanted to form a band and play live.

Where did the name of the band come from?

Our guitarist Matt just came out with it one day and we all thought it sounded cool, maybe he had a vision or something, nobody really knows.

Which bands inspire you?

We have a pretty wide range of inspirations to be honest. Of course the likes of Oasis and Coldplay are big for us but there’s loads, too many to list.

What are your hopes in the band for next year? Any more singles or an album in the pipeline?

We definitely hope to release more music next year, we already have a pretty good idea what we will release next but nothing set in stone. We also plan on playing even more gigs and getting to more new places!

You’ve not been together long, but what’s your favourite memory of being in the band so far?

Probably the Cova-sleepovers we have. We like to put a little time aside to chill and play fifa and eat subways together so yeah maybe that. We also love getting to meet new people and play places we’ve never been.

Name one of your favourite songs

Chris (Singer) – Love Machine by Girls Aloud

Matt (Drummer) – Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley

Jamie (Bassist) – Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Matt (Guitar) – God Save the Queen British National Anthem

Have you got any gigs planned for the rest of the year?

We do!! We are playing:

  • Sheffield, The Frog and Parrot, October 6th
  • Leeds, Verve Bar, October 7th
  • Manchester, Soup Kitchen, November 18th
