New Music Friday review: 23rd June

New Music Friday is my favourite day of the week in regards to discovering and listening to new music. I’ve discovered some of my favourite artists through it and it’s a brilliant of way to explore different genres and bands.

Discover my top five hits, song of the day and my Friday no no. Here is this weeks..

My song of the day..

LAIDBACK – RAT BOY

This had to be my favourite song released this week, it’s an upbeat song and has some really old school vibes about it that I really like. It’s upbeat, perfect for summer and as the title says a really laid-back song that you can just put on and have a little boogy to. This is an artist that I have discovered through new music Friday and I’m excited to give some of their other songs a listen to.

This weeks new hit #1

BROTHER – KODALINE

Brother, is a really chilled song with such a strong and emotive message. It’s a song as the title says about brotherhood and the lyrics play such an important part in the success of this song. It’s a message that will translate with a lot of people, and the vocal arrangements in this song make it one of top hits this week.

This weeks new hit #2

AFTERTASTE – TOTEM

This is a really catchy tune by an artist I have never heard of before. Vocally TOTEM is really good and this song showcases that. It’s a feel good song that has a good beat to it, what more could you want, especially as summer is in full swing.

This weeks new hit #3

I LOVE YOU, SADIE – WYVERN LINGO

I love the vocals on this track, no pun intended. It’s a song that depends heavily on the vocals and arrangements which is done successfully. Another artist I had not heard of before listening to this track. It also has an old school vibe to it, it reminds me of TLC and is a great song to chill out to.

This weeks new hit #4

MAN OF WAR – RADIOHEAD

Radiohead have been around for a while but they have pulled it out of the bag again with this track. It’s quite a simplistic song, but it has some amazing instrumental solos and it’s hard to fault vocally – it also has a really cool music video. It’s definitely a song you can bob your head to, and who doesn’t like doing that?

This weeks new hit #5

VICTORIA FALLS – FLYTE

There is something about this song that I just love, it’s easy listening and the chorus is really catchy. I really love the guitar solos in this track, and while there are not too many lyrics, the vocals are really good and chilled. Another new artist that I will definitely be looking forward to discovering.

Special mention:

BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER  – ARTISTS FOR GRENFELL

This song deserves a special mention, while it’s not the best version of Bridge Over Troubled Water the reason behind it and the cause of why all these massive artists have come together to record it is heartbreaking and definitely needs to be supported. The Grenfell fire disaster in London has hit a lot of people hard and all proceeds made on this track is going to a Grenfell charity set up to help the victims.

My new music Friday no no..

YUH LIVE NICE – GHETTO VANESSA

This song really did nothing for me, it’s not that I have a thing against dance tracks but this didn’t have anything special about it in my opinion. It’s very repetitive and quite frankly quite annoying! I tried to give it a chance but it just wasn’t for me and after a minute I had to skip the track, pretty disappointing as with a name like Ghetto Vanessa I would have expected something a little more cooler!
